Oxford Friends Meeting
The Friends Folk Club is very pleased to announce a rare area appearance by Tex-Mex musician Tish Hinojosa on Friday, October 13th.
Tish Hinojosa is a singer-songwriter from Austin, Texas. Hinojosa’s blend of folk, country, Latino, and pop has an undeniable far reaching appeal, garnering her accolades such as a White House concert at the invitation of President and Mrs. Clinton and teaming up with artists such as Joan Baez, Booker T. Jones, Flaco Jimenez, Pete Seeger, and Dwight Yoakam.
She has recorded as an independent artist as well as for A&M, Warner Bros, and Rounder Records and has been a featured artist on Austin City Limits, A Prairie Home Companion and other NPR programs.
With sixteen CDs to her name, Tish’s distinct sound has gained her much critical acclaim. Her latest CD, After The Fair, released in 2013, was recorded in Germany and is reflective of her 9 years spent in the Beatles old stomping grounds in Hamburg. Tish has toured extensively throughout the U.S. and Europe and continues to draw a loyal and growing audience.
“Her songs are richly detailed with slices of life… Hinojosa is a strong, poetic, sensual, and conscious voice.”
– SPIN MAGAZINE –
“A talented songwriter with an understated but utterly unaffected delivery…vivid…touching…pointed…playful…engaging. A rare gift for melody that’s perfect for Hinojosa’s lovely, relaxed soprano.”
– THE WASHINGTON POST –
“Hinojosa is an angel in cowboy boots with one of the sweetest purest songs to be heard in quite awhile. And when she sings in Spanish, her voice has more warmth than that of Linda Ronstadt. Tish Hinojosa delivers music like an angel.”
“The cultural diversity of Texas lends itself to fascinating music, a style characterized by the natural blending of strong American South flavors with influences from across the Mexican border. One of the finer artists to hail from that backround is Tish Hinojosa., who exhales earthy folk portraits as effortlessly as she moves from Spanish to English in the lyrics of her songs.” THOMAS KINTNER
Tish’s song, Something in the Rain was included on the CD Songs for the Earth: A Tribute to Rachel Carson
